Desi cows grazing at golden hour

हमारा संकल्प

Why We Protect Gau Mata

Rooted in ancient wisdom and ecological truth — our mission is to restore the sacred bond between humanity and the cow.

गावो विश्वस्य मातरः

Cows are the mothers of the universe.

In India's ancient civilisation, the cow was never merely an animal. She was Gau Mata — a living embodiment of abundance, compassion, and the earth's generosity. Every part of her existence was considered sacred: her milk nourishing families, her dung enriching the soil, her urine purifying the land.

Today, millions of desi cows roam India's streets — abandoned, malnourished, and injured. The very creature our scriptures call a mother has been reduced to a burden. GoSewak Foundation exists to reverse this tragedy, one sanctuary at a time.

Stray cow on an Indian city street

A Crisis Hidden in Plain Sight

5 Million+stray cows on India's streets

Abandoned after productivity

When cows stop producing milk, many owners release them onto roads rather than bear the cost of care — leaving them to face traffic, hunger, and disease.

Injuries and starvation

Stray cows ingest plastic waste, suffer road accidents, and starve in urban environments never designed for them. Thousands die preventable deaths every year.

Loss of indigenous breeds

Native desi breeds — Gir, Sahiwal, Tharparkar — are disappearing as commercial pressures favour high-yield hybrids, erasing centuries of genetic heritage.

Our Core Values

Ahimsa

अहिंसा

Non-violence is the foundation of all we do. Every cow in our care is treated with gentleness, dignity, and unconditional compassion.

Seva

सेवा

Service without expectation. Our GoSevaks volunteer their time, skills, and hearts — not for recognition, but as a spiritual practice.

Dharma

धर्म

We believe protecting Gau Mata is a sacred duty — one that transcends religion and speaks to our shared responsibility as stewards of this earth.

Sustainability

स्थिरता

Our Gaushalas are designed to be self-sustaining — using cow dung for biogas and organic fertiliser, and cow milk to support local communities.

How We Work

01

Rescue & Rehabilitate

Our teams respond to distress calls across cities and villages — rescuing injured, abandoned, and malnourished cows and bringing them to our Gaushalas for medical care and recovery.

02

Sanctuary & Long-term Care

Every cow that enters our care stays for life. We provide nutritious feed, veterinary treatment, open pasture, and the company of a herd — restoring their natural dignity.

03

Community Mobilisation

We train and organise GoSevaks — volunteers from all walks of life — to become the eyes, hands, and voice of Gau Seva in their own communities across India.

04

Awareness & Advocacy

Through education, outreach, and storytelling, we work to rekindle India's reverence for the cow and build a movement that protects her for generations to come.

Join the Mission

Whether you volunteer your time, donate to our Gaushalas, or simply spread the word — every act of seva brings us closer to a world where no cow is left behind.
